John Hammond’s television career began in 1949 in Dayton, Ohio when, he was the “L’il Buckaroo” for Gabby Hayes’ show. He continued acting and modeling through high school and while at college stepped behind the camera to learn producing and directing. He earned a Bachelor’s in Communication and a Master in Education from Wayne State University.

After a 13-year career as a teacher and school administrator, television beckoned again. He started his own production company, produced and directed an animated series of children’s shorts entitled “Danny” for the CBC with the voice of his long-time friend Josh White, Jr. Then, hired by Cox Cable, built the first Michigan cable television station in St. Clair Shores. He produced and directed “The Jackie Gordon Show” and launched the very successful “Due Process”, which is still on-the-air. He went on to become Manager of Programming Services for Tribune/United Cable of Oakland County and started the first locally produced cable news program “Oakland Weekday News”, hosted by Frank Joyce.

Since 1991 and through 2009, Hammond has been the Executive Producer for the UAW. His productions include the series “EyeOpener”, scores of issue oriented documentaries, radio and television commercials and the staging of all of the UAW conventions. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the prestigious EMMY® for the documentary, “The Good Fight”, about the life of UAW president Walter P. Reuther, narrated by Ossie Davis.

His dedication to NATAS includes more than twenty-five years of service to the Michigan Chapter as Treasurer, Vice President, President and National Trustee. John is married to Katherine Dallas Hammond; the proud father of Robert and Jason and is grandfather to Maxwell and Benjamin.
